Pekiti-Tirsia Kali (PTK) is trained and executed in combat and survival by military operators, law enforcement officers, and citizens across the free world. It's one of the last true systems that has been tested and proven through generations of combat – and is still tested today.
Pekiti-Tirsia Kali is a true combat system and an authentic Filipino Martial Art. It employs all edged and impact weaponry, empty-hands combat, and integrates seamlessly with the use of modern firearms – with instant validation. As a close-quarters, in-fighting combat system based upon the use of the blade, it provides protection from all strikes and attacks, neutralization of opponent’s weapons, and domination of any combat or self defense encounter.
Today, PTK is trained and executed in combat and survival by military operators, law enforcement officers, and citizens across the free world. It is the official martial arts combat system of the Philippine Marine Corps and is the only Filipino Martial Arts system instructed to all Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). Pekiti-Tirsia Kali is also the official martial arts system of the elite Special Action Force (SAF) of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Training Benefits of PTK-SMF
Self-Defense and Close-Quarter Combatives Training
Pekiti-Tirsia offers a very comprehensive, effective, and versatile training system for self-defense and combat against both empty hand and weapon attacks. Common empty hand attacks, for example, grabs, pushes, punches, kicks, locks, holds and takedown attempts are all quickly countered using very efficient and practical methods. The system utilizes open-hand strikes, elbows, knees, kicks, joint manipulations, chokes, submission hold, off-balancing techniques, and fast, dynamic footwork to counter attacks – standing and from the ground – in a very practical way.
Edged/Impact Weapons and Self-Defense Tools
This is the core mindset of the system and what makes Pekiti-Tirsia so effective. The weapon system is so versatile that once you understand the principles of the system, you can use any edged or impact weapon – as well as transition to empty hands. You will also understand the advantages and disadvantages of different types of weaponry.
The most practical weapons in Pekiti-Tirsia consists of close-quarters training of long bladed weapons (ginunting/machete/survival knife); short bladed weapons (fixed blade or folding knife); Impact weapons such as a rattan stick, baton, or tactical flashlight, (or something from your immediate environment). Specialized weapons training is also available, including combat or survival knife, flexible weapons, and firearms.
Practical Empty Hands
Pangamut (striking) in conjunction with Dumog (off-balancing, grappling, throws, "joint, muscle and tendon destruction") combatives are used to unbalance and strike all vital areas of the body, as well as destroy an opponent's own natural weapons with destruction techniques to the fingers, hands, arms, knees, legs, feet, etc. The system utilizes open-hand strikes, elbows, knees, low-line kicks, joint manipulations, chokes, and off-balancing techniques in conjunction with dynamic and evasive footwork.
The dynamic footwork system in Pekiti-Tirsia Kali is second to none. It offers superior evasiveness, agility, and speed to evade attacks while quartering and overtaking your opponent like no other system. Many self-defense and combat situations can be countered/evaded with the footwork alone.
Pekiti-Tirsia will bring your functional strength, endurance, speed, and mobility to a new level. Training methods are created for explosiveness, agility, and speed – all very functional for combat as well as for day-to-day life. Since the system is based on the experience of real combat – life or death situations – conditioning is a vital part of the system. Train in Pekiti-Tirsia and you'll understand quickly why it's important to have endurance.
Pekiti-Tirsia centers on utilizing a strong offensive and counter-offensive methodology as well as how to not get hit. Tactics are executed from all angles and positions – Firearm and edged weapon disarms and retention included. The Offensive/counter-offensive allows the practitioner to move more dynamically than a "defensive" mentality. With this mindset, practitioners are able to overtake and overwhelm an opponent much more effectively.
Tested and proven through generations of combat, Pekiti-Tirsia and the Military PTK-CQC System continues to be applied on the modern battlefield by the elite Philippine Marine Corps Force Reconnaissance Battalion, Philippine Marine Corps and Philippine Army combat units, the elite Special Action Force of the Philippine National Police, as well as other Special Forces around the world.
A Strong, Strategic Foundation
The foundation strategy of Pekiti-Tirsia Kali is:
1. Protection from all attacks.
2. Neutralization of opponent(s) weapons and strikes.
3. Domination of the combat or self-defense encounter.
Combat Blade fighting tactics are executed according to this strategy. Tactics and training must provide skills for protection, evasion against opponents’ strikes, and the ability never to be hit. The live blade provides instant realization of this principle. Protection from strikes and attacks are accomplished by footwork mobility and maneuver, counter-offensive strikes, and by striking the opponent first. Opponent weapons are destroyed by direct strikes to the weapon hand or incapacitation by striking vital areas off-time of opponent’s strikes. Domination of close-quarters combat is executed by attacking, quartering, controlling, and neutralizing the threat regardless of terrain, environment, or multiple adversaries.
